Following up with our feature on our favourite Regina wedding vendors we had to highlight my favourite floral store. The Wascana Flower Shoppe is definitely at the top of my list as I am a huge advocate for fresh flowers at your wedding as they look AMAZING in photos. Luckily I’ve been able to photograph some incredible weddings that have utilized the services of the Wascana Flower Shoppe. Everything from succulents to using antlers in arrangement I am always enthralled by what they can pull off! On a trip to Regina I was able to sit down with Tanya and Petra, the leading ladies behind this amazing vendor. I wanted to share some of the highlights from our discussion in terms of planning florals for your wedding. Check out our interview below!
How long have you been in business?
37 years, with the last 17 being at our current location.
What budget can a bride expect to spend on her wedding flowers?
We can work with and within any budget, because everyone deserves beautiful flowers for their big day. Whether it’s a small or large budget we can’t wait to knock your socks off! Remember that a bigger wedding party can make a price difference, but we can work together to make your money stretch far.
What’s trending right now in wedding florals?
This year we have been seeing lots of a refined boho look. There has also been a shift from succulents to cacti. Trending colours are marsala, soft pinks, and rose gold.
What types of florals are best to get in our hot Saskatchewan summers.
Definitely a “no” to hydragenas, but other than that it just depends what’s in season. We also give our clients the best instructions on how to care for their flowers so they can last throughout their event.
Fresh or fake?
We do end up doing 2-3 weddings a year that involve fake flowers, mainly due to how far away the event is. Fake flowers are also more expensive as we buy ones that use the highest quality of silk. There is also nothing that beats that sweet smell of fresh flowers which adds a calming atmosphere to your event.
How far in advance should a bride start floral shopping for her wedding?
Close to a year in advance is when they can book their “save the date”. As we can only book so many large events in a weekend due to manpower and fridge space.
What kind of arrangements do you provide for weddings?
We can do everything from just your bouquet or for your entire event. We love being able to design and provide the full package for our couples as it creates such a harmonious atmosphere.
What’s some other good advice for your brides?
If you have a Pinterest board for your florals and/or wedding to show us during one of our clients meetings, it is a great way for us to understand your style and the look you are going for. We also encourage our brides if possible to come see us the day before their wedding to see their arrangements. If they aren’t what they were expecting we still have time to rebuild them. We also know how hectic it can be that last day before your wedding, but seeing how beautiful your flowers have come together is such a joyful boost to your day!
