James and I were absolutely thrilled to get the chance to photograph Linda and Greg’s Traditional Chinese/Vietnamese Tea Ceremony and Western wedding in Regina, SK.
Growing up in British Columbia, my family often celebrated Chinese New Year with our good friends. I was psyched to get a chance to photograph a traditional tea ceremony on the prairies and loved every minute of it.
The day started out with a groom’s procession to the bride’s home with gifts from the groom’s family.
Once they arrived, the bridesmaids put them through a vigorous round of fun party games. Having arduously completed their tasks, the couple headed upstairs to view the offerings and pray.
Afterwards, they took part in the tea ceremony, offering tea to elders and family members and receiving gifts of jewelry. This was followed by a huge feast, catered by Linda’s families restaurant!
The next day, the couple held their western wedding at the Double Tree Regina.
Linda & Greg were awesome and rolled with the punches. We had 45 minutes to get formals so we quickly jetted around downtown Regina with their bridal party. The Scottish Highlands Festival was going on so we even stopped for some photos with bagpipers.
The night ended with the bride and groom heading to each table and having a ceremonial drink with them, followed by cutting the adorable cake the bride made herself.
It is safe to say we were in love with photographing such a colorful and fun wedding.
